The Department of Finance and Economics currently offers four majors under the Applied Economics discipline, namely Public Finance, Finance, Industrial Economics, and International Trade. It has 24 current doctoral supervisors and 26 master's supervisors, including members of the Academic Division and renowned domestic and international experts and scholars. Since 1978, the department has trained over 500 graduated doctoral students (including those from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and foreign international students) and nearly 500 master's students.

Generations of faculty members in the Department of Finance and Economics have upheld and carried forward the fine tradition and academic style of integrating theory with practice. Relying on fundamental theoretical research and focusing on macro-level, strategic applied research, they have carried out pioneering research and talent cultivation work in fields including public finance and taxation, finance, circulation industry, international trade and investment, pricing, urban and real estate economics, and service economic theory. A series of research outputs of great value to major national policy-making and discipline development have been produced, and a group of world-renowned distinguished scholars and academic leaders have been nurtured.
