ZHANG Dingsheng:The Position Evolution of China Export in the Global Value Chain ——An Analysis Based on Value-added Accounting

Abstract:Using the World Input-Output Database(WIOD)and based on the two latest value-added decomposition methods, this paper analyzes the evolution of Chinese exports in the position of global value chain from the perspective of intermediate products import and export and sectors competitiveness in the global markets.Main findings are as follows.(1)Compared to final products, the growth of vertical specialization share of intermediate products, including its components, is faster.All of these shares of intermediate products are larger by 2000.(2)Compared to developing and natural resources-based countries, the foreign value-added share owing to developed countries has less growth in Chinese exports.(3)The ratio of foreign value-added of developed countries in Chinese exports to Chinese value-added in developed countries exports is decreasing.But the trend reverses when it comes to developing countries.(4)The revealed comparative advantage index based on value-added trade data indicates that the position of traditional manufacturing sector is going up and the position of knowledge-intensive sectors is improving.Based on the findings, we conclude that the position of Chinese exports has risen.
