Abstract:Based on Chinese family household survey data in 2010, this paper studies the effect of different kinds of migration on individuals' income growth, and finds out that, in addition to the in-city migration without household registration(known as
Hukou in China), income of all kinds of migrants are higher than non-migrants on average, And the Propensity Score Matching(PSM)method estimation results show that migration increase migrants' income by 44.34% on average compared with non-migrants. The income growth effect of out-city migration is greater than in-city migration; the income growth effect of migration without
Hukou is greater than the migration with
Hukou. While dividing migration into four kinds, the income growth effect of out-city migration without
Hukou is the biggest one, the second one is the in-city migration with
Hukou, the third one is the out-city migration with
Hukou, and in-city migration without
Hukou has no significant effect on migrants' income growth. Because income and the income growth effect of out-city migration are both greater than in-city migration, the current local urbanization lacks income growth “foundation” relatively. And migrants without
Hukou may face the dual dilemma of low income and low welfare(related to without
Hukou), it means that the new urbanization need to speed up the reform of household registration(
Hukou)system.
Key words: Urban Immigrant Income Growth Household Registration(
