The National Academy of Economic Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) was founded in June 1978. Its predecessors were the Finance and Taxation Research Group and the Commercial Research Group under the Institute of Economics of CASS. It was initially named "the Institute of Finance and Trade Economics and Materials of CASS". In 1994, it was renamed "the Institute of Finance and Trade Economics of CASS". In 2003, it was renamed "the Institute of Finance and Trade Economics of CASS". On December 29, 2011, as a major initiative to implement the innovation project of philosophy and social sciences, CASS established a comprehensive and innovative national financial strategy research institution — the National Academy of Economic Strategy — on the basis of the former Institute of Finance and Trade Economics.

Book Collections and Materials: The library of the economic sector of CASS has a collection of 700,000 books, and the National Academy of Economic Strategy holds more than 3,000 volumes of professional materials.
