Located on the blue coastline, which is the pride of the French, Nice has the mountain on the north to block the cold wind and enjoys a long stretch of beaches on the south. Nice is renowned for its perennially mild Mediterranean climate, splendid sunbeam, long rock patch as well as leisure life in the old town. The features of its leisure development can be concluded as follows:

Firstly, the unique geographic location and temperate Mediterranean climate serve as the magnet to attract residents of France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Britain and other European countries to spend their holidays here. This has grown into an age-old tradition. In additional to its beach vacation, Nice can provide such a wide range of activities as tours with the themes of water, culture, city, sports and recreation, nature, shopping and all-the-year-round festivals and celebrations so as to cater for tourists of various tastes.

Secondly, to better satisfy the needs of local residents and tourists, local government attaches great importance to the building of public space and infrastructure in the city. In terms of municipal construction, Nice is now implementing the Municipal Construction Program and Charter on Utilization of Public Space, issued in December, 2010. The mayor of Nice and the PACA Regional President jointly put forward the concept of building Nice into an eco valley. They share the idea that the achievements of innovation should go beyond the laboratory and facilitate the daily life of Nice residents.

Thirdly, with a lack of heavy industry in Nice and in its neighboring regions, the government focuses its economy on tourism and leisure industry, where a great deal of government support and investment are input. The government actively seeks cooperation with private business owners and organizes all forms of festivals and activities so as to enlarge the scope of tourism and leisure industry and improve the quality of products and services. Nice government even formulates a special development plan for regional tourism, emphasizing that tourism should facilitate the life of local residents in such areas as ecology, economy, aestheticism, social activities.
